Although the town of Santa Pola lacks its own course, it is literally surrounded by a diverse choice of superb golf courses. Some of these form part of luxury resorts offering stylish accommodation, fantastic leisure facilities and fine dining. However, visitors wishing to play a variety of golf courses during their stay will find Santa Pola an excellent holiday choice.
If you are visiting with family or friends and looking for golf courses close to the beach, it doesn't get much better than Alicante Golf. Located on the outskirts of Alicante City and 30 minutes drive from Santa Pola, the golf course is within walking distance to Playa de San Juan. This is one of the most popular beaches on the Costa Blanca. So, the golfer in the family can play a round while the rest of the family enjoy some time on the beach or make use of the resort's leisure facilities.
Designed by the much loved pro golfer Severiano Ballesteros, the 18 hole course has a par of 72. Not many golf courses boast the ruins of a Roman villa from the first century BC, a unique feature of Alicante Golf. Players can warm up in the practice area that has a driving range and short play area. The club also has a golf academy, and within the resort are two swimming pools, padel court, spa and comfortable four star accommodation in a choice of 156 guest rooms.
Club de Golf Alenda
This course lies inland behind Alicante and around 20 minutes drive from Santa Pola. With a length of 6,257 metres and par 72, the 18 hole course covers 49 hectares of pristine countryside. Alenda boasts a golf academy, long shot driving range with 25 bays, practice bunker, putting greens and a pitch & putt area. If you are visiting with children they can take part in the Kids Club located in the clubhouse. There is also a padel court, gymnasium, Pro Shop and restaurant.
Font del Llop Golf Resort
This beautiful 18 hole, par 72 course is only around 4 kilometres from Alenda. The excellent design makes use of a small river to form a natural water course with five inter-connecting ponds. Facilities include a driving range and large putting green. At the clubhouse players can browse the Pro Shop, have a drink in the well stocked 19th hole or enjoy a meal in the restaurant.
La Marquesa Golf
30 minutes drive south and slightly inland from Santa Pola is La Marquesa Golf. Tricky water hazards come into play on this 18 hole, par 72 course. It is one of the oldest courses in the area and was founded 1989 as Club de Golf Quesada. Visitors looking for golf courses with nearby accommodation can stay at the Hotel Laguna Spa & Golf. The hotel offers great leisure facilities and well appointed, stylish guest rooms. Young visitors will enjoy the nearby Quesada Aqua Park.
A bit further afield and around 50 minutes drive from Santa Pola is Vistabella Golf. As the name suggests, the views from this 18 hole, par 73 course are beautiful. Taking centre stage is a large lake surrounded by undulating fairways and strategic bunkers. The clubhouse has been built at the highest point of the course where visitors can enjoy panoramic views from the restaurant's large terrace. The club boasts 3 glass wall padel courts, a lawn bowls club and golf academy.
Hotel La Finca Golf & Spa Resort
This is one of those golf courses where, after a challenging day on the course players can enjoy five star treatment in the luxurious hotel complex. The 18 hole, par 72 course has generous fairways and immaculate greens. At the clubhouse is a modern Pro Shop and restaurant. The resort complex is home to a further four restaurants, bars, gymnasium, wonderful spa and an outdoor swimming pool. Next to this is a handy poolside bar and terraces with sun loungers.
Campoamor Golf Club
Campoamor lies around 50 minutes drive from Santa Pola in the extremely popular resort area of Orihuela Costa. The area is home to some of the best beaches on the Costa Blanca as well as four excellent golf courses within 10 minutes drive from each other. Campoamor Golf Club forms part of a top class hotel resort. Aside from the the 18 hole par 72 course, the resort boasts some superb sports facilities. These include 3 FIFA standard football pitches, 3 tennis courts, 4 padel courts, a 2,000 metre athletics track and a multi-purpose court for sand sports. Within the hotel's lovely gardens is a large swimming pool and four star accommodation if offered in two separate wings.
Las Colinas Golf & Country Club
With these four golf courses being so close to each other, you could practically walk from one to the next. Las Colinas Golf & Country Club is only about a kilometre from Campoamor. This is an 18 hole, par 71 championship course that has won multiple awards. An area of 5,000 square metres is dedicated to the short game with a well kept green and two bunkers. Rounding off the practice facilities is a driving range, and a golf academy offers individual and group lessons as well as coaching retreats. Close to the club house are tennis and padel courts, a gymnasium and a children's playground. The location of the playground is handily overlooked by the gymnasium.
Las Ramblas Golf
Las Ramblas is also located close to the Campoamor golf club. The 18 hole course lies between two ravines and has a par of 72 and length of 5,807 metres. This is a strategic course where you will need to get your thinking cap on and will make good use of most of the clubs in your bag. The course, driving range and putting green are all well maintained, and the clubhouse has recently been nicely renovated. Here you can hire equipment and enjoy a meal in the restaurant.
Villamartin Golf Club
The popular residential area of Villamartin lies on the highest part of Orihuela Costa. This gives the golf course some spectacular sea views. Villamartin Golf Club had the honour of hosting the 1994 Mediterranean Open and is possibly the most popular course in the area. A challenging layout of hills and valleys with deep ravines coming into play on this 18 hole, par 72 course. Facilities include a driving range and practice area close to the clubhouse and restaurant. For a further choice of excellent restaurants and lively bars, the Villamartin Plaza is right next door.
